John Murray is a native of Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire. After joining the civil service for a short period he took a law degree at the University of Edinburgh and for the next 30 years he was a partner in leading law firms, initially in Edinburgh and then in Glasgow. He specialised in property investment and development and public sector work. He is now retired and lives in Glasgow.
